The Fort Mojave Indian Reservation is located along the Colorado River in the vicinity of Needles, California.  The Reservation covers nearly 42,000 acres in the tri-state area of Arizona, California, and Nevada.  The land is divided into three major segments: 23,669 acres in Mojave County, Arizona; 12,663 acres adjacent to Needles, California; and 5,582 acres in Clark County, Nevada. Tribal headquarters are located in Needles, California.

Fort Mojave is located in the Mojave section of the basin and range.  Deep-bedded alluvial valleys interrupted by low mountains and mountain ranges characterize this section.  The Reservation itself is mostly on the flood plain of the Colorado River, which very gently slopes from the piedmont edge to the river.  There are a number of lakes and marshes, the most notable of which is Topock Marsh, a portion of the Havasu National Wildlife Preserve.  The Colorado River is the dominant surface water feature of the Reservation.  The major use of the river water, besides wildlife habitat, is for agricultural irrigation.  The Colorado River is also the major influence on and source of groundwater.
