Includes field trips to the magnificent Anasazi cliff dwellings at Navajo National Monument and scenic Monument Valley.

Course Description
River Skills and Anasazi Thrills
Learn paddling skills in a fun, safe and pristine environment. Experienced guides teach you how to read the river and maneuver your inflatable kayak as you float the tranquil depths of the San Juan River. Inflatable kayaks are stable, easy to learn and are perfect for this mild white water adventure, or if you choose, relax on a guided oar boat. Enjoy lectures on the native peoples of this region and explore archaeological sites. Visit one of the largest petroglyph panels in the Southwest and walk through a two-story Anasazi cliff dwelling only accessible by river. Delight in gourmet meals and peaceful wilderness camping. All river and camping equipment provided. The river is challenging, yet friendly and great for first-time paddlers. Equipment provided (tent, sleeping bag and pad). Activity Level: 6 (see description)

Three days of paddling in 2-person inflatable kayaks; up to four hours of paddling each day; always have the option to relax on guided oar raft instead of paddling kayak; Class II river with swift currents and moderate waves; daily hikes of one to three miles over uneven and sometimes rocky terrain.
