Synopsis
Nestled at the base of Arizona's highest peak, 12,633' Mt. Humphreys,
Flagstaff is an ideal mountain community from which to explore the
Grand
Canyon and other wonders of Northern Arizona with your grandchild. Nearby
attractions include ancient Indian ruins, modern Indian tribes, horseback
riding, lava-tube caves, natural water slides and Sedona. Flagstaff is 140
miles N. of Phoenix with convenient bus, air, and rail connections. Summer
temperature in 80's with cool nights.
Course Description
Rafting The Mighty Colorado
River
Enjoy a spectacular raft adventure from Glen Canyon Dam to historic Lee's
Ferry. Marvel at towering 800' red rock cliffs as you raft waters first
explored by John Wesley Powell. See ancient Anasazi rock art and a trading
post on Navajo Reservation.
Rails To Rim: An Adventure
To The Grand Canyon By Steam Train!
All aboard! Ride the rails and enjoy strolling cowboy musicians and train
robbers on horseback enroute to the Grand Canyon's South Rim. Learn the natural
history of this wonder as you gaze upon a sight that you and your grandchild
will never forget.
A Challenge/Ropes Course And
Outdoor Skills Adventure!
Build trust and communication skills through participation in a
ropes/challenge course. Whether trying the climbing wall or 'The Maze', all
come away with a new adventure not soon forgotten. Learn outdoor skills in
our "Living in the Woods" program.
Accommodations
For programs beginning in June 2006, stay on the NAU
campus in two-room suites with a shared bath, spectacular view of
mountains. Program requires a 5 to 7 minute walk to and from dining
hall for most meals. On-campus Olympic-sized pool and tennis courts.
For programs beginning in July 2006, stay at modern hotel in Flagstaff
with outdoor pool.
* This program is for hostelers and a
grandchild - ages 9-12, (1 grandchild per grandparent).
