Snapshot
Grand Canyon: North America’s Crown Jewel
# 12238

Detailed itinerary, dates & price

Synopsis
Within the borders of its 1.2 million acres, this World Heritage Site offers bikers, hikers, rafters and campers everything from breathtaking vistas to high adventure. Its 277 miles of raw rock and water continue to amaze generations of visitors. Grand Canyon's South Rim is 75 miles from Flagstaff (accessible by plane, train and bus). Commercial van available daily from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon.

Course Description
Uncover the "story behind the scenery" of this American treasure. Hear accounts of explorers, naturalists, miners and dreamers whose exploits and tales are forever linked to the canyon - John Wesley Powell, the Harvey Girls, those darn mules and more. Enjoy presentations by regional experts, and then walk the rim to view the "layer cake" geology and natural history through your own eyes. Peer into the depths to the mighty Colorado nestled one mile deep in this chasm of stone. Experience the thrill of Powell's first descent through the mighty rapids of the Colorado during the breathtaking IMAX feature film, and enjoy a guided bus trip along the rim to the canyon's finest viewpoints. Top off your program with a magical sunrise or sunset!

Daily walking of up to one mile required, longer excursions available. Elevation exceeds 7,000 feet.

Accommodations
Lodging and meals at Grand Canyon National Park lodges, adjacent to historic Grand Canyon Village and just one-fourth of a mile from the rim. Free shuttle bus in village allows access to trailheads, historic sites and retail shops.
