Synopsis
Join astronomers and scientists from Lowell Observatory, US Naval Observatory and the US Geological Survey in this "out of this world" program. From the Solar System to the Milky Way, scientists have probed mysterious worlds and made startling discoveries. Flagstaff , designated our country's first "International Dark Sky City," has dazzling night skies which has made it a center for astronomical research and findings such as the discovery of Pluto. The charming mountain town is surrounded by ponderosa pines, volcanic lava flows and the towering San Francisco Peaks.  Flagstaff (7,000' elevation) is 140 miles north of Phoenix with convenient access via plane, train and bus.

Course Description
The Latest Discoveries in Astronomy and Space
Discover the answers to the great questions: Where did we come from? How was the universe created? How are stars born? What's the latest on Mars exploration and ongoing NASA projects? Since the late 1800's Flagstaff has been a center for astronomical study and played a pivotal role in space research. Visit Lowell Observatory, discovery site of Pluto and a leading institution for ongoing research, and Meteor Crater, the world's best preserved meteorite impact site and used as a training ground for the Apollo astronauts. Lecturers discuss black holes, SETI, the Mars 'Spirit' and 'Opportunity' Rovers, Galileo Mission to Jupiter, archeo-astronomy and the fate of the Hubble Space Telescope. Suitable for all levels of interest.
