Rails to Rim: A Historic Grand Canyon
Train Adventure

 # 10452
Photo Album

Detailed itinerary, dates & price

Synopsis
In 1903 Theodore Roosevelt boarded the Grand Canyon Railway and became one of the first tourists to visit the relatively unknown "Great Canyon" of North America. Now, 100 years later, is your chance to travel via restored Pullman cars and discover what has recently been voted "the worlds #1 must see travel destination." Begin your journey in Williams, AZ., 160 miles north of Phoenix and 60 miles south of the Canyon, where you will discover the historic importance and charm of this frontier town.

Course Description
Rails to Rim: A Historic Grand Canyon Train Adventure

At the end of the 19th century, the Arizona Territory was making national news. Rumors of a fathomless canyon were being substantiated with front page photographs and the recently completed Santa Fe Railway was escorting passengers to a series of high end hotels staffed by the prim and proper Harvey Girls. Now is your chance to discover how Iron Horse railroads civilized the West and to hear the inside story of the Grand Canyon Railway's history and rebirth. Enjoy living history presentations and a western shoot-out as you learn the story of the mountain man and cowboy. At the Grand Canyon, enjoy guided walks along the rim, majestic sunsets, and learn from local experts about the natural and human history of this world treasure.

Accommodations
In Williams, rest your head as a guest of the area’s premier lodging — the historic Grand Canyon Railway Hotel and Depot; at Grand Canyon, stay in a National Park Lodge, just a short walk from the majestic South Rim and in the heart of Grand Canyon Village.
